It's Julia Margaret Cameron's birthday! The British photographer began her photography practice at the age of 48 after receiving a camera as a gift from her daughter. She became one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 19th-century due to her figurative portraits, taken at her studio on the Isle of Wight. Cameron enlisted everyone around her as models including family members, domestic servants, and local residents. Her compositions frequently drew inspiration from Italian Renaissance painters like Raphael, Giotto, and Michelangelo.
