This painting by Willem de Kooning has a dramatic history—in 1985 it was sliced from its frame, stolen from the
@UAZMuseumofArt, and hidden away.
For 32 years, the painting's whereabouts were unknown. It was discovered again in 2017. Since 2019 the painting has been in Getty's paintings conservation studio, where a team of conservators and scientists have been working to reunite the stolen painting with the edges of the sliced original canvas left behind by the thieves.
