What’s the last record you bought? Before Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon, you used to have to travel to a record store to pick up a physical copy of your favorite album. Artist Ed Ruscha captured the iconic record store Tower Records at its Sunset Boulevard location (which opened in 1971) over multiple decades. Through the years Ruscha documented the music that was trending, and being advertised at the store. From Bette Midler to George Michael, from Loverboy to the Beastie Boys—even the Miami Vice soundtrack. Unfortunately, the chain music store shuttered in 2006. In 2007 Ruscha recorded the vacant building and the changing Hollywood landscape. Discover more icons of Sunset Boulevard through the decades through the new #12Sunsets interactive site. #LinkInBio.
