Lynn Margulis was a revolutionary #American #biologist whose tenacious advocacy altered our understanding of early life on #Earth. ⠀ ⠀ It didn’t come easy. Her theory of #endosymbiosis (that through a #symbiotic relationship, engulfed #bacteria became #mitochondria and ultimately evolved into #eukaryotic life) was rejected 15 times before being published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology.⠀ ⠀ Weathering constant criticism for decades, she continued to research and assert this idea. Today, her symbiotic view of cellular #evolution is widely accepted as key to decoding the origin of life and a cornerstone of #biology.⠀ ⠀ Lynn believed that symbiosis is a key driver of evolutionary change. That #cooperation, #interaction, and mutual dependence play a bigger role than competition alone. Her work exemplifies a transformative thinker who questioned the status quo, challenged existing truths, and reshaped our worldview as a result.⠀ ⠀ ______________⠀⠀ ⠀ Source | Nancy R.
