SDZWA’s float for the 2024 Rose Parade includes a few familiar faces for our fans: 🦧 Karen is the first orangutan to have open heart surgery after her care team discovered a hole in her heart at just two years old. Most of our visitors today know her as the adorable ball of red hair that can be seen rolling around her habitat, often with a blanket. 🐨 Omeo the koala was hand-raised after he lost his mother to cancer when he was only a few months old. Now, the resilient rascal is snacking on eucalyptus with our colony of koalas - the largest outside of Australia. 🐻‍❄️ Chinook is an orphan polar bear that was rescued and brought to San Diego Zoo. She helps out her fellow bears in the wild by voluntarily participating in studies that help us and our partners preserve wild polar bear populations. 🐢 Gramma the Galapagos tortoise is a fan favorite and internet shellebrity.
