It takes a troop to save gorillas. 🦍 Over the past 15 years, there’s been a dramatic decline in wild gorilla numbers, with nearly half of the eastern gorilla population suspected to be wiped out. San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s work to protect gorillas is done in tandem with local communities in Central Africa. In 2000, SDZWA established a long-term field program in Cameroon, which is now part of our Central Africa Program, focusing on the behavior and habitat use of gorillas and other primates in the mountainous southwestern Cameroon rainforest.
