Japan’s Shinkasen Maglev: The Fastest Train in the World 🚄
The SC Maglev is Japan’s groundbreaking superconducting magnetic levitation train, developed in the 1970s by Central Japan Railway Company and the Railway Technical Research Institute.
Unlike traditional trains, maglev technology uses powerful magnets to lift the train about 4 inches above the track, eliminating friction. Once it hits 150 km/h (93 mph), it begins to float — allowing speeds no wheel-based train can reach.
In 2015, Japan’s maglev set the world record at 603 km/h (375 mph), faster than the maglevs in Shanghai and South Korea. This same tech inspired innovations like Tesla’s Hyperloop, making the ride ultra-smooth and incredibly safe.
