Tahini is a nutrient-dense butter generally made from hulled, ground and toasted sesame seeds. It is commonly used in North African, Greek, Iranian, Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine, and one of the main ingredients found in the classic hummus recipe, along with chickpeas.

Chances are, you probably bought tahini once in your life because of your resolution to make homemade hummus, but then forgot it in the graveyard of your fridge. That’s usually the common reserved date for your friend the tahini jar.
But the truth is you can use it in a wide range of recipes, from salty to sweet.
You can use it as a substitute to peanut butter on your toast, combined with honey, dates, maple syrup or jam. Put some in your cookie or muffin mix of sweeten it and use it as a frosting. Make a nutrient-dense smoothie by mixing it with banana, nut or soy milk, cacao, vanilla and dates.
