Have you seen a common blue butterfly this summer? Males have bright blue wings with a white fringe, while female colouring can vary regionally from being almost entirely brown to mostly blue. The underwing helps to distinguish them from the holly blue, as common blues have orange and black markings, while holly blue have pale blue and black marks. Common blues often have two broods, with eggs laid in June, then August and September!
