🚨 You may have heard the recent news of hundreds of seabirds that have been found dead along the coasts of north-east England and Scotland. According to The UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, the majority of the birds are guillemots and razorbills, whilst puffins and kittiwakes have also been affected, but not on the same scale. Whilst we don’t know the exact cause, we do know that climate change is driving prey fish numbers down in our seas and creating more extreme weather events. This extreme weather, along with pollution and disease can kill seabirds and if prey fish are scarce, seabirds can be weakened through starvation. This is yet another stark reminder of the impacts of the climate crisis, with both humans and wildlife already experiencing the effects. We need urgent action from governments to help revive our world and protect our wildlife. Please do not handle dead seabirds if you see them.
