It can act as an empty filler, and should only be given as part of a varied diet. Birds that live on a diet of predominantly bread can suffer from serious vitamin deficiencies. Additionally, feeding bread to waterfowl can cause overcrowding, and throwing it into bodies of water can cause a build-up of uneaten soggy bread - which can lead to greater algal growth and lowered water quality.
