The Government is committing to protecting 30% of land for nature by 2030! 🌍🎉 #LeadersPledge4Nature​ This is welcome news, and a good step towards tackling the nature and climate crises, but it must be done right.​ Although we welcome the increase in land being protected, the appropriate management also needs to be in place. We estimate that only 5% of land is currently well managed and adequately monitored - just because land is deemed as protected, that doesn't automatically mean it is supporting the nature it should!​ Words and targets on paper aren’t enough – we need to make sure these changes happen. The targets set 10 years ago failed because they were voluntary; these new commitments must be put in to law.
