Identify and cultura are front and center in the new Gap denim ad featuring international girl group Katseye and directed by Mexican-American photographer and director Bethany Vargas. The 90-second “Better in Denim” ad features all the group’s members performing a choreographed dance to “Milkshake” by Kelis while dressed in the brand’s denim and accessories. During the era of American Eagle’s new controversial campaign with Sydney Sweeney, Vargas’ video is powerful for featuring Latinx talent onscreen including Katseye member Daniela Avanzini, who is of Cuban-Venezuelan descent, and the video’s background dancers.
