Ximena Arias Cristobal, a 19-year-old Mexican-born college student from Georgia, was arrested on May 5 for a mistaken traffic arrest, booked into jail, and taken to the Stewart ICE detention facility. Despite Dalton’s police department dropping the mistaken traffic charges against her, Arias Cristobal remains in the detention facility along with her father, who was taken by ICE last month, and the Department of Homeland Security says it is committed to deporting them despite neither of them having criminal records.
