Mexican-American teacher, journalist, and activist Jovita Idár was among those chosen to be depicted in the quarter through the American Women Quarters Program in 2023. The trailblazing activist was honored for her work in fighting for Mexican American civil rights and speaking out about U.S. action at the US/Mexico border. Idár’s journalism included founding “La Liga Feminil Mexicanista” (The League of Mexican American Women) in October 1911.
