New Orleans ICE officials have deported two mothers and three children, one of whom is battling stage 4 cancer, to Honduras from Louisiana according to a statement from the American Civil Liberties Union on April 25. While Trump admin officials try reframing the deportations, the two families and their attorneys are searching for answers, and legal representatives are sounding the alarm about the lack of due process.
In the ACLU statement, Teresa Reyes-Flores of the Southeast Dignity not Detention Coalition said ICE violated the families’ rights: “ICE’s actions show a blatant violation of due process and basic human rights. The families were disappeared, cut off from their lawyers and loved ones, and rushed to be deported, stripping their parents of the chance to protect their U.S. citizen children.”
