The Internal Revenue Service has reached an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hand over migrants’ tax records and help immigration services arrest and deport migrants, marking a departure from the decades-long practice at the tax collector to keep information submitted by undocumented immigrants confidential. According to a partially redacted version of the deal submitted in a court filing, ICE officials will be able to ask the I.R.S. for information about people they are looking to deport, though neither agency has shared any information officially.
