One Latina with three firsts in politics ✨ LA Chicana activist and community leader Gloria Molina blazed a trail for Latinas in politics. She made history throughout her career, which began early in the Chicano movement with the Chicano Moratorium—an East LA protest against the Vietnam War. She made history not only as the first Latina elected to the California State Assembly in 1982, but also as the first Latina elected to the Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. This poderosa has been honored by Los Angeles with August 19th being designated as Gloria Molina day. This past year, Molina was also the subject of an exhibit, “Gloria Molina: Madrina of the Eastside” and a play depicting her life story by “Real Women Have Curves” playwright Josefina Lopez entitled “A Woman Named Gloria”.
