Dr. Marta Moreno Vega is an Afro-Puerto Rican writer, advocate, and artist. She is the chief editor of Women Warriors of the Afro-Latina Diaspora (Arte Publico Press) and author of The Altar of My Soul. Dr. Moreno Vega’s talent has reached different disciplines including filmmaking as director and co-producer of the documentary When the Spirits Dance Mambo: Growing Up Nuyorican in El Barrio and writing through a memoir of the same name as the film. She is also the founder of the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute as well as co-founder of Corredor Afro, a project documenting historical and contemporary African-based traditions of Puerto Rico and the diaspora.⁠ Dr. Moreno Vega is a co-editor of “Actualidad de las Tradiciones Espirituales y Culturales Africanas en el Caribe y Latinoamerica” and participated in the documentary “In Our Mothers’ Gardens”—a celebration of Black women and Black families through the lens of the relationships between mothers and daughters.
