👏🏽We love to see Afro-Latinas make history, and Dominican-Boricua actress Zoe Saldaña did just that at the 2025 SAG Awards on Sunday, February 23. The 46-year-old actress won the award for her supporting performance as Mexican lawyer Rita Mora Castro in the film Emilia Pérez, becoming the first Dominican to win the award and the second Latina to ever win this award since Boricua actress Ariana DeBose won for West Side Story. In her acceptance speech, she thanked SAG-AFTRA and discussed how the union has always allowed her to be herself:
“To be in this room…this is my community, this is my circus,” Saldaña said in her speech. “I am proud to be a part of a union that allows me to be who I am, and I’ve never been questioned about where I come from and judged by how I speak or what my pronouns are.
