Amara La Negra is one of the most outspoken and well-known Afro-Latinas in the entertainment industry, and she’s always been open about confronting colorism, anti-Blackness, and racism in the Latinx community.
At just four years old, she joined the iconic Sabado Gigante as a regular cast member, becoming the only Black girl on the cast that the show ever had in 50 years, and after six years on the show, she became a backup dancer for artists like Tito Puente and her idol, Celia Cruz.
Her big break came in 2018 when she became one of the main cast members of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Miami, and her storyline explored colorism and racism in Latinidad.
