Chile libre! 208 years ago, on February 12, the Battle of Chacabuco took place, led by Bernardo O’Higgins and José de San Martín. Together they led the Army of the Andes, crossing the mountain range in extreme conditions to liberate Chile. Despite losses, they achieved victory against Royalists at the Battle of Chacabuco. A year later on February 12, 1818, O’Higgins officially declared Chile’s independence in a ceremony.
