Nayarit became the 20th state in Mexico to decriminalize abortion on Friday, January 24. In a 17-12 vote, the Nayarit Congress passed the decriminalization of abortion up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. Nayarit is the first Mexican state in 2025 to make a major move towards reproductive rights. Mexico City was the first in the country to decriminalize abortion back in 2007 followed by Oaxaca in 2019.
