The Latin American community in LA stepped up this week to provide aid during the massive wildfires raging through the greater Los Angeles area. The fires devastated tens of thousands of people since this Tuesday, January 7. Due to extremely dry conditions and high winds in southern California, areas like the Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Sylmar, Altadena, and more have been engulfed in flames, and firefighters have been struggling to contain the fires. As a result, Latinx immigrants have been doing whatever they can to extinguish some of the fires and protect their fellow Angelenos’ homes. The Palisades Fire has destroyed at least 1,000 structures, making it the most destructive fire in Los Angeles County history. The Eaton Fire, the second largest fire of the many in the area, has been blazing northeast of downtown LA, hitting the Altadena neighborhood hard.
