This week in 2010, Mexican activist Marisela Escobedo was murdered on December 16 in front of the Government Palace in Chihuahua, Mexico while she was picking up banners calling out the impunity in her daughter’s case. Security cameras recorded her exchanging words with a man, who then pulled out a handgun and shot her in the head as she tried to run for her life. Her fight began two years prior after her daughter, Rubi Frayre, was allegedly killed by her then boyfriend who initially confessed but then redacted it saying he was tortured to confess. Her 16-year-old daughter's body was found dismembered on a hog farm near Juárez.
