Anything for Salinas! 💜Since its release in 1997, the “Selena” film has continued to show its impact and significance to film and culture. It was during this time in 2021 that the Gregory Nava-directed film was selected as one of the 25 films inducted into the National Film Registry. “Selena” portrays the life and rise to fame of Tejano music icon/singer Selena Quintanilla while showing an authentic representation of Mexican-Americans in the U.S. As of 2023, the registry features 24 Latinx-centered films (of the 875 total films) being preserved including “Real Women Have Curves”, “Stand and Deliver”, and “West Side Story”.
