It was during this time in 2021 that the Gregory Nava-directed film was selected as one of the 25 films inducted into the National Film Registry. “Selena” portrays the life and rise to fame of Tejano music icon/singer Selena Quintanilla while showing an authentic representation of Mexican-Americans in the U.S. As of 2023, the registry features 24 Latinx-centered films (of the 875 total films) being preserved including “Real Women Have Curves”, “Stand and Deliver”, and “West Side Story”.
