Posted withregram • drhortenciajimenez Today we honor La Virgen de Guadalupe, also known as Tonantzin, who appeared to Juan Diego in 1531 at Tepeyac—a sacred site once dedicated to the Aztec goddess Tonantzin, “Mother of the Gods.” La Virgen exists within multiple truths. She can be a symbol of unconditional love, resilience, and cultural pride while also representing patriarchal values tied to purity culture, self-sacrifice, and traditional gender roles. For many, she embodies devotion and protection—but her image has also been used to uphold systems that marginalize women, queer folks, and those who defy societal expectations. As we honor La Virgen de Guadalupe today, I invite you to reflect on what she represents to you.
