Renowned Mexican-German artist Frida Kahlo continues to make an impact in the art world decades after her death in 1954. Just three years ago, Kahlo made history with the huge success of her self-portrait “Diego y Yo” at a Sotheby’s auction in New York. Her portrait became the most expensive work by a Latin American artist to ever sell in auction going for $34.9 million more than tripling the record set by Diego Rivera himself at $9.8 million for his work “The Rivals”. The painting shows Frida shedding three tears with Diego’s face on her forehead and a third eye on his forehead. She finished the painting in 1949 and it is considered her final self-portrait.
