Shakira has been collecting accolades for decades and shows no signs of stopping. It was on November 10, 2011 that Colombian icon Shakira was honored as the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. The then-34-year-old singer was honored in a tribute dinner and concert—the night before the Latin Grammys. A portion of the proceeds from the gala went to Shakira's Pies Descalzos Foundation and The Latin Recording Academy's Latin GRAMMY in the Schools educational efforts. Shakira was up for three Latin Grammys—winning Best Female Pop Vocal Album for “Sale El Sol”. Upon receiving the honor, Shakira became the youngest artist to be named Person of the Year. She joined the star-studded list of legends who’ve received the honor such as Gloria Estefan and Julio Iglesias.
