FIFA referee Katia Itzel García did just that when she refereed the USMNT match between the USA and Panama on Oct. 12, becoming the first woman to referee a USMNT match. The 32-year-old has been refereeing since 2016 and made history back in March when she refereed a game in Mexico’s top soccer division, Liga MX, becoming the second woman to do so. Born in Mexico City on September 1, 1992, García has officiated several international and club matches from the 2023 Women’s World Cup to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and has been a full international referee for FIFA since 2019.
