Guerrero, Mexico native Maria Catalán is now the first Latina farmworker-turned farm owner in California. She currently runs Catalán Farm, a small organic farm in San Benito County. She worked as a farmworker for almost a decade when she was invited to an organic farm training program at the Rural Development Center in Salinas. Catalán continued her work and in 2001 rented her first half acre of land and began harvesting. Having experienced the barriers farmworkers face firsthand she founded Pequeños Agricultores en California (PAC), a nonprofit to help other migrants overcome barriers. "My story is not only mine. It's the same as thousands of women that, like me, are single moms and migrate with their kids," Catalán shared with local NBC station, KCRA. #MariaCatalan #CatalanFarm #CatalanFamilyFarm #Latina #Mexicana #Farmworkers #Poderosa #PoderosaOfTheWeek #LatinaPower #HistoryMade #ProudLatina #Mexican #Guerrero #Mexico
