“How was your race?” Whenever people have asked, from seconds after I crossed the Leadville 100 finish line to now, I’ve found myself using two adjectives more than any others: light and fulfilling.  Light, not in the sense that it was easy. 100 miles is always the opposite of easy. Light, in the sense that the experience was fun, I was in the flow, and that I welcomed all that came with it. I held the experience, the running itself, the race, all very loosely. It was rooted in joy—the ups and downs, the miles, the struggles, the wonders and wanders. It was light as an adjective, and as a result, I welcomed light into my heart and soul as a noun.  Fulfilling—well, that one’s more self-explanatory. I got the experience I was hoping for, and a whole lot more. That’s the same adjective I used more than any other for Bighorn 100 in June too.
