Actress Jenna Ortega (
@jennaortega) is one of the most prominent Latinas in Hollywood today and she recently opened up about not feeling Latina enough. The 21-year-old actress spoke with journalist Michelle Ruiz for Vanity Fair about how she doesn’t feel like she’s deemed “good enough” to be Latina. The California native was born to a Mexican American dad and Puerto Rican mom, but never learned to speak Spanish. Her portrayal of Wednesday Addams as Latina has also earned as much criticism as praise with many saying it’s not a strong enough representation of Latinidad. Despite the backlash she’s faced and her own sense of disconnect, she says she’s working on learning more about her roots and knows she can’t carry the responsibility of representing for all Latinas.
“But also, something that I’m learning is…it’s not my job to carry the weight of everybody who’s ever had that experience.”
