There has been a 'staggering increase' in GPs denying gender-affirming care to trans people, charities and campaigners have warned. Representatives from TransActual told The Independent that doctors are claiming they are either not competent to provide the service or are not contractually obliged to. The director of TransActual, Chay Brown, said the charity had seen a "staggering increase" in GPs refusing to prescribe HRT to trans people since last spring. They said that this is a common occurrence even for people who have been on HRT for years, with some doctors citing a lack of competence, funding, or simply personal bigotry. “It continues to be a problem,” Brown said. “Trans people being denied the very same medication that cis[gender] people are given without question.
