This January the Huskies worked alongside Indigenous student-athletes Jacquelyne Chief of Onion Lake Cree Nation and Julianna Herman of the Red River Métis, along with Elder Kathy Eashappie, to coordinate and host a special practice for young hockey players in Saskatoon.
The Orange Jersey Project works to create awareness around the true history and generational impacts of Residential Schools while strengthening the path to Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
This special morning consisted of skating and on-ice games with Jacquelyne and Julianna, followed by a sharing circle with Elder Kathy.
As we reflect on National Indigenous History Month, the Huskies would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jacquelyne, Julianna and Elder Kathy for their invaluable leadership, guidance and support on this initiative - it had a significant impact on the young players and families involved and we are very grateful for their time and generosity 🧡💚
