Despite the broad language of the 1920 Amendment, all women citizens would not have a federally recognized right to vote until the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. While 1965 may feel like a long time ago, it was only 4 years before I was born. In our current times, US citizens still experience voter suppression, through gerrymandering, restrictive voter ID laws, modern poll taxes, and restrictions on obtaining mail-in/absentee ballots.
