María Sabina Magdalena García, known as María Sabina Sabia, was a Mazatec sabia who lived in the Sierra Mazatec area in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. She is regarded as a sacred figure in Huautla de Jiménez, and she is considered to be one of Mexico's best poets. She never took credit for her poetry, as she expressed herself through "the sacred mushroom" and said they spoke through her.
