π΅ Did you know the first African-American millionaire in the South was from Memphis?
Robert Reed Church Sr. (1839β1912) was an entrepreneur, businessman, and landowner who built wealth and influence right here in the Bluff City. He founded Solvent Savings Bank, the first Black-owned bank in Memphis, extending credit so Black families could buy homes and build businesses.
As a philanthropist, he created parks, playgrounds, and auditoriums for the Black community at a time when segregation shut them out of most public spaces.
π True Memphis legacy. True Black excellence.
