Truthfully, things do not always feel easy out here on the Pacific Crest Trail. Most of the time, it’s uncomfortably hot. There are biting bugs. I’m usually tired, or sore, or both. Sometimes, there’s cold rain. Occasionally, there’s hail. I don’t always want to engage with the many other hikers I see each day. I don’t get to shower enough. My clothes are falling apart. My pack is heavier than I’d like it to be. I worry about my job, and my family, and my bank account. Those are just the realities of being out here. But somehow, walking all day everyday, engaging in a community of like-minded people, experiencing the world in slow motion with one goal in mind (to get to camp each night), makes me feel more alive and wild and free than anything else I’ve tried. It’s hard to explain how damn special it is to experience the world this way. But as Washington (and ultimately, Canada) draws near, I just want to take a moment to express how very GRATEFUL I am to be here. . Thank you, visitcar...
