Daddy-O’s: a short-lived chain making fast food even faster 🍔➡️ Launched in 1988 by the G.D. Ritzy’s chain, Daddy-O’s put speed and low costs at the forefront. The restaurants were small. There was no indoor seating – instead, they built multiple drive-thru windows. With lower construction costs and minimal staff, customers enjoyed lower prices than competitors. Their menu had all the classics: burgers (just 89¢), fries (49¢), chili dogs, chicken sandwiches, chocolate milkshakes, and soft drinks. 📍 The first Daddy-O’s was a converted Ritzy’s on Ohio State’s campus. The first drive-up location opened in Whitehall later that year. The pictured shop, near Grandview at West 5th Ave. and Eastview Ave., opened in 1989. But just as Daddy-O’s gained momentum, Ritzy’s began to struggle. Their namesake restaurants closed around the country, and Daddy-O’s quickly followed suit.
