Matthew McConaughey and his "The Lost Bus" costar America Ferrera talked about the importance of telling stories that don't make the audience feel checked out or isolated. "I don't know if I feel a responsibility to do these kinds of movies but I do think that belief is in short supply," officiallymcconaughey told the Times' Josh Rothkopf at the Los Angeles Times Studio rbc House. "Stories that can help people believe more themselves and take more care of what they give a damn about are good stories to tell." #TheLostBus is based on the deadliest fire in California history, the Paradise Fire, in which a school bus driver (played by officiallymcconaughey) and an elementary school teacher (played by americaferrera) try to bring a busload of children to safety as the disaster escalates. The movie was adapted by director Paul Greengrass from Lizzie Johnson's non-fiction book "Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire."
