The performative vs. anti-performative male contest took place in Berkeley on Wednesday, with contestants dressed in jerseys, wearing backward caps, carrying tote bags and flaunting feminist novels, all for the chance to win either a Labubu or protein powder.
The contest allowed around 200 attendees to compete under one of two categories: performative or anti-performative. After rounds of performances, which included contestants discussing their outfits, Clairo and feminism, a woman was crowned the winner of the performative male contest.
There were six performative men and nine anti-performative men who participated. It included a moment where a performative man was booed for having Kanye West in their top 10 on Spotify, and other men were cheered for glorifying their girlfriends and their love for matcha.
