I was supposed to post today announcing the dates for my book tour, but honestly, I spent most of the day crying, on and off, over everything that’s been happening in the news and the thought of posting something so tone deaf to my own literal feelings seemed like not healthy for me, personally. I remember once during quarantine, I got into an argument with someone about the importance of the BLM movement, and that person said to me, “Joanne, slavery happened 400 years ago,” and I literally burst into tears, canceled the Zoom immediately, and I hated myself for being so weak and embarrassing and prone to crying over “politics” and wished BLM had a better advocate than me. I don’t see other activists and strong politicians or even lawyers I admire crying over these things, but that’s me, I guess.
