A study led by University College London (UCL) researchers found that regular daytime naps are linked to larger total brain volume, which is associated with a brain that appears 2.6 to 6.5 years younger in aging. The research analyzed genetic data and brain scans from over 378,000 adults aged 40-69 and used Mendelian randomization to suggest a causal effect of napping on brain health. While nappers had bigger brains, no significant differences were noted in cognitive function tests. The study suggests that short, habitual naps may contribute to slowing brain aging and preserving brain health as people get older.
