In 2022, electrical engineer Katya Echazarreta became the first Mexican-born woman to go to space. Her trip on Blue Origin’s sub-orbital NS-21 mission was sponsored by Space for Humanity’s citizen astronaut program. Echazarreta has used her experiences in space to encourage others, giving practical advice to girls who want to enter STEM fields but may not know how and working to promote Mexico's further engagement in space.
