50th Flashback: The Oscar nominations were announced today. Did you know that AHIHA - Stan Mikita Hockey School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing was blessed with a visit from an Oscar winning actress? Marlee Matlin attended camp in 1987. This was the same year she won an Academy Award for Best Actress in the film “Children of a Lesser God”. Ms Matlin was just 21 at the time and was, and still is, the youngest woman to win an Oscar in this category. She was also the first deaf performer to win this prestigious award. Ms. Matlin’s acting career continues to flourish and her credits include multiple other film and TV productions. She also continues to advocate for the deaf and hard of hearing and break down barriers. AHIHA is blessed to have this memory with Marlee Marlin. • • • #ahiha #hardofhearing #hardofhearinghockey #girlshockey #hockey #hockeycamp #deaf #deafhockey #deafhockeyplayer #usahockey #stanmikita #stanmikitahockey #stanmikitahockeyschool #camp #summercamp #summercamp2021...
