Have you heard of Apple Butter? Its rich, decadent and tastes like fall. It’s a pantry staple in Appalachia, but beloved in many other parts of the country as well! It’s surprisingly one of my most requested recipes. It’s a main ingredients in Appalachian Stack Cakes. I’ll share a recipe for mine soon! Promise! However, I enjoy apple butter most of all on buttermilk biscuits or as a filling in hand-pies! 9 large apples 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup molasses 1 -1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg 1/4 tsp clove 1 cup apple cider (or apple juice) Combine all ingredients together in a 4 quart (or larger) crockpot. Stir to combine. Turn crockpot on high and allow to cook 8-10 hours. Stirring occasionally. If at any point you feel the apples are sticking or are cooking too high turn your crockpot to low.
