Zoe Rosenberg’s criminal trial started Monday at the Santa Rosa courthouse. Rosenberg, a UC Berkeley student and Direct Action Everywhere, or DxE, animal rights activist, is facing one felony charge of conspiracy and three misdemeanor charges after removing chickens from Perdue Farms’ Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse facility. Rosenberg has been wearing an ankle monitor for the last 20 months while waiting for her trial and faces up to five years in jail for her alleged crimes. A source familiar with the case said the prosecution is arguing that Rosenberg trespassed and tampered with a vehicle, which amounts to a felony conspiracy charge. Rosenberg maintains support for her actions, which involved entering a truck parked next to the Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse June 13, 2023, and removing chickens.
