For the third year in a row, the boys varsity team fell to the Rockhurst Hawklets on Sept. 15. The two teams competed at noon at the Shawnee Mission Athletic Complex, in 95 degree weather on one of the hottest recorded days this month. This game marks the team’s first loss of the season, following their state championship win last year.
“It’s never fun to lose a game,” head coach Jamie Kelly said, “We always want to come out and play our best. That’s arguably the best opponent we face all season long, which is why we like to play them.”
The Hawklets are the Missouri 24-25 champions, while the Lancers are defending the same title in Kansas. In the future, Kelly plans to use film to fortify the teams lines, and decrease the number of turnover.
The team’s next game is on Sept. 18 against Gardner Edgerton High School at 7p.m. at the Shawnee Mission Athletic Complex.
