This is a fun one. You’re looking at a delivery wagon parked in front of 2606 Pacific between Scott and Pierce circa 1890. Note the hitching posts and a little bench on the wood planked sidewalk! The tree covered block in the distance was known as the Pixley Estate, bounded by Union, Fillmore, Green and Steiner. And beyond that is Fort Mason (then known as Black Point) and Alcatraz Island.
The home, built in 1888, was moved to 2518 Union Street in 1895 and underwent an interior remodel by none other than Julia Morgan in 1935. It still stands, as you can see in the second slide, although who knows if Morgan’s interior has held on…
